Court for badminton - rectangular, 13.4 metres at length (44 foots) and 5.18 metres at width - in single game, for pair game-13.4 m х 6.1м). It is divided on two equal parts by a grid, height 155 sm at poles from each party, and 152.4 sm - in the centre. From each party on distance of 1.98 m in parallel a grid there passes a giving line. Behind this line platforms for giving which are divided by the central border which is passing perpendicularly to a grid from each party are placed. The back part of a platform for giving, a long line of giving, forms back border of platforms for single givings. However in pair games, the long line of giving is located on distance of 83 sm from back border.

Game has arisen in ancient Malaya, and later became popular and in other countries of Asia. The name has received from a place Badminton (England) where the Englishmen who have arrived from India have started it to cultivate. Development in the USSR has received after 1954 when has been delivered from China where it is known under the name "юмаоцю".
